Adele woke up with the tolling sounds of the chapel bells which were housed in the neighbouring compound, right beside her one room shanty. As she opened her eyes startled and dis-oriented for an instance, probably only one sound reverberated across her one room apartment.

“You are too useless dear, how lazy are you, you don’t even work, No income contribution from your side, and you want to live with luxuries”, politely slammed mother Jennifer.

“Mum! This is going to kill me. I don’t care, I need some time, space and money to invest in order to get you an income.” “Anyways if you feel that this isn’t enough I’ll leave your possession and get away into something really big”; counter argued Adele.

She wore her heavily rimmed goofy spectacles, folded her plats and just went out of the shelter, banging out the door – that stood firm with only one pair of screws. She’d been experiencing mere frustration, and the only place she could have thought of to calm herself in those early hours of the day was at the St. Peter’s Chapel that housed next door.

Divinity was echoing all across the chapel complex, as the head priest read out the Holy Scriptures during the mass. The interiors of the chapel had been carved out of heavy marble slabs, enriched with some of the carvings being plated in silver. The centre, where resided the holy supremacy- the statue of Jesus was an epitome of inner beauty, plated out in gold, was portraying a sigh of supremacy amidst the beings present there. Jesus who stood right at the centre constituted a ruling power. The atmosphere at the Chapel was full of divinity and serenity. The vibrations that one felt over there was unforgettable and inexplicable

.

The mass had already commenced, while Adele walked in. The first rows of the benches had been already occupied, which bought her right at the end of the hallway, where she could find a bench for herself. From the very commencement of the day, she’d been in a depressive state, but when she was in front of the lord; she felt calm enough. But in spite of this calmness that surrounded her, Adele couldn’t stop mulling over the recurring jibes she tolerated each day

“Why have I always been under the radar of people? In spite of me being a qualified secretary? Why was I never employed by a firm? Lord, I am fed up of this now.” Mulled Adele.

Adele D’sa, a beautiful, provocative lady in her mid-thirties had an attractive and cheerful look, which possessed golden brown hair, perfectly thin and curvy eyebrows, sapphire eyes and much simple lips that had the lightest hue of red, and a flawless skin. But the only drawback that she could face were her heavily rimmed spectacles that had a number of -6.5. In spite of her being a beautiful lady with extraordinary intelligence and simplicity, finding a job was far from reach.

The mass lasted for around one and a half hour, and everyone had queued up to have reached near the Altar to pray, before they departed for work. Adele was lost. She stood still, her eyes widely open, This was recurring…

While she sat still, a fragrance of marigold scent wafted in the area. Someone came by, and kept their hand over Adele’s shoulder comfortingly, and called out her name.

“Adele! Adele!”

Those hands were known enough to her. The lady in white shook her hand; and she’s back to senses. Adele looked expectantly to Aunt Maria, who to her sudden surprise gave out an unending smile to her.

“Adele, I’ve got an offer for you dear” she announced to Adele.

“This will definitely shape up your future”

Adele had been unemployed since long now, she knew that it was much better to have actually nodded and agree to the offer, than actually resisting in order to fulfil her demands.

“Aunt Maria, currently I am in no shape to actually joke with you, please do be serious enough”, she said.

“Am quite serious dear! I know what you’ve been going through these days. I am worried about you.” Maria spoke out in a slower tone. “Just blindly agree to this offer”

Okay fine!” she said. “What is it?”

“I would say, it’s who? I guess you must have heard about Mr Tagger.”

Mr Tagger had been in gossips quite much those days, because of the donations he made towards the welfare of the chapel. He owned a construction firm “Tagger Constructions”, which once used to rule the real estate industry. Tagger Constructions mainly specialised in Buildings construction and had received much of building contracts and tenders through the government. But these days, it was speculated to have gone insolvent due to a dip in the number of government tenders it received. The company also failed to have completed orders on time and providing its customers with a quality service. The company’s reputation faced much of a fall. The gossip catch about him were that, if his firm’s gone insolvent and he’s debt ridden, why was he donating large sums towards charity? He was conjectured to have been involved in some kind of malpractice and fraud.

Mr. Davis Tagger, a surpassingly handsome quadragenarian, with an athletic build, rough and unruly hair, amber eyes, a lighter skin complexion, darker lips and a Van Dyke beard, was said to be outspoken and ruthless. Indeed, he was a dynamic leader with an autocratic style, which showcased his sikken attitude.

“Well! I’ve somewhat heard about him.” “Okay go on!”

“Rather than me telling you about him, it would be better if we meet him in person. Have a word with him.”

Maria raised her hand and called out to Davis who stood at the corridor, dressed in a black tuxedo. And he walked stunningly towards Adele, gave a warm smile.

He had a heavy voice that seemed strict enough. “Wishing you a very Good Morning Ms Adele”

“Good Morning to you too sir!”

“uhh! Ms Adele! Aunt Maria often keeps talking about you.”

“Yeah!”

“She told me how good you’re at handling situations and dealing with people. I am impressed”

With an eyebrow raised, she replied “Indeed sir! So, how may I help you?”

“It’s easier don’t worry! These days Tagger Constructions has been on the verge of liquidation. No one is quite interested in actually investing in the company. So, let’s come to the point. I am willing to appoint you as a strategist for the company. In return, I offer you a 10% stake. What you’ve got to do is float up a campaign to help the company thrive, you’ll be appointed as the Managing Director and a Strategist.”

Adele was awestruck.

Intriguingly she asked “Sir! It’s been years now that I’ve been unemployed and also, I am a Fresher, who lacks experience.”

“Don’t underestimate yourself! I have seen you working.”

He came much closer and whispered with conviction “I love you!”

Adele stood aghast and moved back as a receptive move. Without having commenting over Davis’s action, she held her bag and walked off from the chapel.
